Aquaculture Division
The Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff's Office has partnered with Operation Blessing and the New Orleans Mosquito & Termite Control Board. With the help of Operation Blessing, the Sheriff's Office was able to revive the Aquaculture Program to raise mosquito larvae-eating fish which the Termite & Mosquito Control Board utilizes to combat the insects and avert any potential health risks. The agency is targeting unattended swimming pools at storm-damaged homes. If you know of a pool or other stagnant water which needs attention, please contact the New Orleans Mosquito Control Board at 504-658-2400.

Medical Department
The Medical Department of the Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff's Office (OPCSO), is staffed with physicians and nurses on the premises 7 days a week. The Department is accredited by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC), and the American Correctional Association (ACA).
Upon admission, every inmate is screened by a medical professional. After this, inmates may request access to medical care by completing a sick call request form. Nurses visit each living area daily to deliver and pick up these forms. Then, they triage the request and, if indicated, a physician or dental appointment is scheduled. Treatment is usually delivered in-house, but if needed, it can also be delivered in hospital settings, after OPCSO physicians determine the need for a transfer.
An infectious disease specialist, who treats illnesses including but not limited to Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, is available in-house. An orthopedic surgeon is also part of the medical staff.
The OCPSO has a fully functional psychiatric unit staffed by 3 Board-certified psychiatrists.
A $3 co-pay fee is charged for every self-requested visit to the doctor or the dentist. A $2 co-pay fee is charged for prescriptions.
