Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff Marlin N. Gusman hosted the grand opening of the $4.9 million Chief Nathaniel Hall Vehicle Maintenance facility on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009.
The Nathaniel Hall Vehicle Maintenance Facility is a 12,847-square-foot building that will be used to repair and maintain all OPCSO vehicles. The OPCSO fleet consists of 268 vehicles, including buses, cars, trucks, vans and motorcycles. Each vehicle is required to report to this facility every other week for a preventative maintenance inspection, making this facility imperative to running a safe and efficient Sheriff’s Office.
Chief Hall served the OPCSO for more than 38 years and commanded the Vehicle Maintenance Division for more than 20 years, before he passed away Jan. 1, 2004. In addition to his leadership and dedication to the Sheriff’s Office, Chief Hall taught numerous inmates invaluable skills that enabled them to re-enter the community and obtain well-paying jobs as auto mechanics.
Construction of the facility began in January 2008 and was completed in August 2009. It includes a 10,014-square-foot vehicle maintenance shop and a 2,833-square-foot mechanic shop.
