Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff Marlin N. Gusman hosted the first graduation ceremony for the New Orleans Day Reporting Center (NODRC) since its opening on Friday, Oct. 1, 2009.

The NODRC is a partnership between the OPCSO and the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections, Division of Probation & Parole and is offered to parolees as an alternative to incarceration. The program strives to maximize the experience of an individual who is under the supervision of Probation and Parole by assisting them with community re-integration through education, substance abuse treatment, individual and group work, employment, anger management and a variety of other services deemed appropriate for the individual.

The NODRC operates three different levels of service; Level I, Level II and After Care. A participant’s movement up or down through the program is determined by their progress and participation during their time with the program.

In Level I, Daily Accountability, the participant is responsible for daily treatment at the NODRC, active employment search activities, random drug and alcohol tests and community service.

To qualify for Level II, participants must achieve the following:
  • Four consecutive clean drug screens
  • Successful completion of goals set for Level I
  • Recommendation of the Inter-disciplinary Team
  • Development of a plan to secure regular, full-time employment (30+ hours each week) OR Enrolling in full-time school or training (12 semester hours or 30+ hours each week).

Once the participant has reached Level II, they are required to have no less than eight hours of treatment at the NODRC each week, random drug and alcohol testing, community service and continued monitoring of the participant’s employment and/or educational activities. Upon completion of all the goals set by the participants and their supervisors, they graduate and enter the final level, After Care. In After Care, participants are encouraged to attend follow-up consultations or make appointments to participate in group sessions or activities for up to one year following graduation.
