Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff Marlin N. Gusman announced the arrest of six individuals and the charging of seven additional inmates for various counts of possession of illegal narcotics and the introduction of contraband into a penal institution.
During the last several weeks, Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff’s Office deputies initiated an extensive investigation of efforts to introduce illegal contraband into the jail campus. On Thursday afternoon, Oct. 15, thirteen individuals were charged following an undercover operation.
Illegal materials seized included drugs and cell phones.
The following individuals were arrested as part of this operation:
- Lawrence Brant, 34, charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana and the Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution;
- Juan Carter, 25, charged with Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana and the Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution;
- Dwanka Casby, 34, charged with Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana and the Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution;
- Donald Daniels, 24, charged with Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana and the Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution;
- Charles Jackson, 27, charged with Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana and the Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution; and
- Kelvin Spencer, 21, charged with Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana and the Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution. Spencer is also being held on an outstanding traffic warrant.
The following inmates were charged for their involvement in this activity:
- Shaun Bailey, 37, rebooked on Possession of Marijuana and Introduction of Contraband to a Penal Institution;
- Russell Bentley, 42, rebooked on Possession of a Schedule III Narcotic and Introduction of Contraband to a Penal Institution;
- Wesley Hawkins, 58, rebooked on Introduction of Contraband to a Penal Institution;
- Jamal Jackson, 29, rebooked on Conspiracy to Possess with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Conspiracy to Introduce Contraband to a Penal Institution;
- Roderick Magee, 24, rebooked on Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Introduction of Contraband to a Penal Institution;
- Frederick Myles, 29, rebooked on Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Introduction of Contraband to a Penal Institution; and
- Karim Peters, 25, rebooked on Introduction of Contraband to a Penal Institution.
We will remain vigilant in investigating and acting on attempts to introduce illegal contraband into the jail system. These investigations are ongoing, and the OPCSO will charge anyone involved in this type of activity,” said Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff Marlin N. Gusman.
