12-14-2007 Young Marines Graduation
Sheriff Gusman's Young Marines Program held a cadet graduation during which several cadets received certification for completing the GREAT Program. The Sheriff's Office partners with the U.S. Marshal Service to instruct the Gang Resistance Education and Training Program in schools and churches throughout the City. The cadets were joined by family members for the special occasion.

Sheriff Gusman hosted the 33rd Annual Sheriff's Office Thanksgiving Celebration at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Diners were welcomed by Sheriff's deputies and entertained by Grammy Award Winner Irma Thomas, Cultural Ambassador Irvin Mayfield, Kermit Ruffins, Chucky C, Elate, Michael Ward, and the Sheriff's Office All Star Band. The OPCSO Color Guard presented the colors in the pre-game ceremony of the New Orleans Saints vs. Miami Dolphins at the Louisiana Superdome on Thursday, August 30, 2007.

08-21-2007 Sidney Zaffuto Human Development Center
Sheriff Marlin N. Gusman, deputies, staff, family members and friends of the late Lt. Sidney Zaffuto gathered to dedicate the Sidney Zaffuto Human Development Center, named in honor of the deputy sheriff, husband, father and friend who was fatally wounded during a bank robbery on January 8, 2004. The building renovation was funded by the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement, represented by Michael Ranatza, and FEMA, represented by John Connally and Jim Stark. 07-09-2007 LA Sheriffs Association Conference in New Orleans
The Louisiana Sheriffs/Wardens Training Conference was held in New Orleans July 9-12. The OPCSO Honor Guard participated in the meeting. OPCSO Medical Director, Dr. Sam Gore made a presentation at which Sheriff Gusman visited with Sec. Richard Stalder of the LA Department of Public Safety and Corrections.

04-08-2007 Sheriff and Deputies Bring Easter Cheer to Schools
Sheriff Marlin N. Gusman, members of the Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff's Office and K-9 Division spread Easter cheer to students at McDonough 42 Elementary School. The Sheriff and staff also visited Harriet Tubman Charter Elementary in Algiers, St. Alphonsus, and St. Peter Claver Central School.

03-30-2007 Stanford Graduate School of Business Lends a Hand to Locals
Sheriff Gusman spoke to a group of students from the Stanford Graduate School of Business who were in New Orleans for a service learning project. They were hosted by the Loyola University Law School. In conjunction with The Idea Village of New Orleans, the Service Learning Team worked with business clusters along Freret Street, Bayou Road, and Oak Street to help prioritize their most pressing needs and assisted in the development of strategies to address those needs. 03-09-2007 Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club Appreciates Young Marines
On behalf of the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club, Jimmy Felder presented a contribution to Sheriff Marlin N. Gusman for the OPCSO Young Marines divisions which made a repeat appearance in the 2007 Zulu Parade. Sheriff Gusman led his Mounted Division in the parade as well. Also pictured is Alice Reed who is the school liaison for the OPCSO Young Marines Program.

Sheriff Gusman spoke to the general assembly of St. Paul's Episcopal School in Lakeview. In September 2006, Sheriff Gusman honored the request of 7th grader Ebony Morris to maintain the neutral grounds around St. Paul's. The area is maintained by the Sheriff's Community Service Program.

Sheriff Marlin N. Gusman's Community Service Program partnered with the Glad Corporation, Keep America Beautiful and its state and local affiliates to spruce up the grounds of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School for Science and Technology. The Lower 9th Ward gem will open for classes in the Fall.
